Dukly
Habit forming app
As part of my UX Design Master's program at Barcelona Technology School, I developed Dukly, a concept for an app designed to help users develop positive organizational habits. I identified a key need for solutions that make the process of getting organized more enjoyable and less stressful, especially for early-career and mid-career professionals who often experience negative emotions associated with organization.

Dukly

A playful approach to building positive organizational habits.

Dukly: Simplifying habit formation through playful design.

Dukly is a habit-forming solution designed to transform the often stressful process of building organizational habits into an enjoyable experience. Using a playful approach centered around a rubber duck theme, Dukly helps users develop consistent routines through task breakdown, timely reminders, progress visualization, and a gamified rewards system. This project explored the psychological aspects of habit formation while creating a solution particularly aimed at early and mid-career professionals struggling with organizational skills.

The challenge:

  • Users experience negative emotions (anxiety, stress, frustration) when attempting to get organized.
  • Traditional organizational tools fail to address the emotional barriers to habit formation.
  • Many users struggle to maintain long-term motivation for organizational habits.
  • Different user groups (early-career vs. mid-career professionals) have distinct organizational needs.
  • Users feel overwhelmed by complex tasks and responsibilities, leading to procrastination.

  • Approach & Process:

  • Conducted qualitative research with 8 potential users across two target demographics to understand their organizational challenges.
  • Identified one primary user persona (Nicole, early-career professional) and one secondary persona (David, mid-career professional).
  • Analyzed user frustrations, challenges, motivations, goals, and needs for each persona.
  • Applied behavioral psychology principles, particularly atomic habits methodology, to guide the product strategy.
  • Created a distinctive brand identity using a rubber duck motif to evoke simplicity, nostalgia, and approachability.
  • Designed core features with a focus on reducing negative emotions associated with organization.

  • Solution:

  • Developed a comprehensive habit-tracking system with an intuitive home screen and easy two-click habit creation.
  • Created a task breakdown feature that converts overwhelming tasks into manageable steps.
  • Implemented a smart reminder system that provides timely prompts without causing notification fatigue.
  • Designed detailed progress tracking visualizations that give users control over their goals.
  • Built a unified calendar that integrates tasks and habits to promote a holistic view of daily activities.
  • Incorporated multi-sensory feedback mechanisms to provide positive reinforcement.
  • Developed a gamified rewards system with points, badges, levels, and personalized incentives.

  • Impact:

    • Successfully addressed the negative emotions users typically associate with organization through a playful, approachable design.
    • Created a solution that makes habit formation less daunting and more enjoyable.
    • Provided a holistic integration approach that helps users balance all aspects of their lives.
    • Applied atomic habits methodology to encourage small, achievable changes that lead to lasting results.
    • Identified opportunities for community building and deeper personalization in future iterations.
